India is giving Human Papillomavirus shots to young women with an older vaccine.
This is because the Human Papillomavirus is a health issue for women.
The Union Health Ministry in India is starting a free vaccination program for the Human Papillomavirus to help prevent this disease that can be stopped with a vaccine.
This program will start in February 2026,It is part of an effort led by the World Health Organization to stop cervical cancer by 2030,In India 12 million girls can get the Human Papillomavirus vaccine every year. The World Health Organization says that one dose of the Human Papillomavirus vaccine is enough for teenagers.
This dose has been shown to be very effective in stopping the Human Papillomavirus,It works than 93 percent of the time,If needed a second dose can be given after 3 to 5 years.
The vaccine will be given to people for free at government health facilities.
These facilities include Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, community health centers
and hospitals,An organization called Gavi is helping to make sure there are Human Papillomavirus vaccines,For this program India has chosen a vaccine called Gardasil.
The Gardasil vaccine protects against four types of the Human Papillomavirus,These types are the ones that cause cervical cancers and genital warts.
There is another Human Papillomavirus vaccine in India.
It is called Cervavac. It was made in India.
It is available for people to buy in the sector.
The United States has a Human Papillomavirus vaccine.
It is called Gardasil 9. It protects against more types of the Human Papillomavirus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States recommends that children get the Gardasil 9 vaccine when they are 11 or 12 years old,Recently the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention changed its guidelines, Now it says that one dose of the Human Papillomavirus vaccine is enough for children,This is because research has shown that one dose can be effective,for a time.
