Doctors amputated woman's arms and legs - was it because 'a dog licked the wound'?
Manjit Sanga, from Britain, has returned home after spending 32 weeks in hospital, having lost both arms and both legs,The 56-year-old returned home from Moseley Hall Ward 9 in Birmingham a few days ago, despite doctors giving him little hope of survival. His family, who live in Penn, on the Wolverhampton/Staffordshire border, gave him a warm welcome.
Doctors believe something as simple as his dog licking a small cut or abrasion could have caused his sepsis,As he recovers and begins to rebuild his life, he now wants to warn others about its dangers, believing sepsis “can happen to anyone”.
“It’s hard to explain the experience,” he said. “Losing your legs and arms in such a short period of time is a huge thing.” ,“It’s very serious and it’s not something to be taken lightly.”
Sepsis is a rare but serious medical condition that occurs when the body's immune system, which is supposed to fight disease and infection, starts attacking the body's own tissues and organs,The couple are now raising money for advanced prosthetics, including robotic arms, which they say will cost tens of thousands of pounds.
So far they have raised £22,000 through a GoFundMe page and fundraising through Screwfix. Manjit Sanga worked weekend shifts at Screwfix alongside her pharmacy job,She said she knew she had a tough road ahead of her, but was determined to rebuild her life.
"I want to walk," says Manjit. "I want to get my prosthetics and go back to work." she says.
"I've had enough sitting in a chair and bed. Now it's time to walk," says Manjit.
